Description

What is Vidalta?

Vidalta is a medicine for cats suffering from hyperthyroidism. It is designed to block the production of thyroid hormones which – in excess – cause hyperthyroidism. It comes in the form of prolonged-release tablets and is available in a variety of doses. Vidalta should be taken as directed by your vet at an appropriate dosage.

After this treatment, cat owners may notice a reduction of hyperthyroid symptoms. A decrease in  hunger and thirst, weight gain, and a slower heart rate, are some of the changes pet owners may notice after therapy with Vidalta has started. If your cat is suffering from other systemic diseases (such as severe primary liver disease or diabetes mellitus), auto-immune diseases and/or altered red or white blood cell counts, has platelet disorders, or is hypersensitive to carbimazole – Vidalta’s active ingredient – then this product should be avoided.

Cats on Vidalta should be monitored routinely by their veterinary surgeon.Once a maintenance dose has been established it is recommended that the patient should be examined by their vet every 3-6 months.  Cessation of treatment may result in the recurrence of clinical signs of hyperthyroidism.

Rare reactions to Vidalta include weight loss, vomiting, lethargy, abnormally rapid heart rate, reduced appetite, and diarrhoea and dehydration. Treatment should be stopped if any of these symptoms are observed. In the event of your cat receiving an overdose of Vidalta, then you should contact your vet immediately for appropriate treatment.

This product is only suitable for the treatment of animals and should never be used on humans. It should be kept away from children out of sight and out of reach. In the event of this product being ingested by humans, then medical attention should be sought immediately.

How does Vidalta work?

Vidalta works by inhibiting the production of thyroid hormones, thus suppresses the main physical symptom of hyperthyroidism. Vidalta is taken orally, usually in the form of tablets which should not be split or broken.

What are the benefits of Vidalta?

Hyperthyroidism can be a debilitating condition. Vidalta may reduce its symptoms and allow your cat to live with a more normal metabolism and can improve its quality of life.

Is Vidalta Available Over The Counter?

Vidalta is not available over the counter and requires a veterinary prescription.

Dosages will vary depending on the size of the cat receiving the prescription.
