What is Panacur Small Animal 10% Suspension for Cats and Dogs?
Panacur Small Animal 10% Oral Suspension for Cats and Dogs is an effective treatment for cats and dogs to eliminate a number of gastrointestinal worms, including roundworm, tapeworm and lungworm. It’s recommended to use a worming treatment every 3 months to keep your pet healthy and happy.
It can also be used in the treatment of pregnant dogs to reduce prenatal infections and the risk of transferring roundworm to their pups via their milk.
The ready-to-use oral suspension helps with easy dosing and it’s available in a 100ml bottle.
This treatment has been created to be suitable for both dogs and cats. If you’re looking to de-worm another animal though, you should have a look at the rest of the Panacur range.
How does Panacur Small Animal 10% Suspension for Cats and Dogs work?
The active ingredient in Panacur Small Animal 10% Oral Suspension for Cats and Dogs is fenbendazole, which is a broad spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic that’s effective against a range of gastrointestinal parasites. It works by disrupting their ability to grow and produce energy, to starve the parasite and kill them.
Once the worms have been killed, they are then passed in your pet’s stool, but you may not often see or notice them as they get digested before they can be expelled.
How do I use Panacur Small Animal 10% Suspension for Cats and Dogs?
When you receive the medication, it’s important to read and understand the dosage instructions. The strength and dose of the medication will depend on the size of your pet.
Always use medications as directed. The dosage for adult cats and dogs is 1ml of oral suspension for every 1kg of body weight. For puppies and kittens under the age of six months, the dosage is 0.5ml of oral suspension for every 1kg of body weight.
Try to measure your pet’s body weight as accurately as possible to ensure they get the correct dose. The medicine (once the required amount has been calculated) should be given as a single dose for adults, and should be given for 3 consecutive days to puppies and kittens. It should be given by mouth to unweaned animals and can be mixed with food for weaned animals.
To ensure that puppies and kittens are not infected with worms during birth, be sure to give Panacur to pregnant pet’s from day 40 of the pregnancy up until 2 days after the birth.
Puppies and kittens should be treated from 2 weeks old, and then a further 3 or 4 times until they’re 12 weeks old. It’s recommended to treat adult cats and dogs every 3 months, or more frequently for those who are high risk (dogs in kennels, cats in catteries, animals at breeder’s premises).
