Description

What is Droncit Spot-On?

Droncit Spot-On is an effective worming treatment used in cats. It works to eliminate tapeworm. There are a number of things that can increase your cat’s risk of contracting tapeworm such as flea infestations or hunting (and eating) mice.

To quickly and effectively treat tapeworms, Droncit Spot-On comes in a convenient pipette and is supplied in packs of 4. It’s recommended to deworm your cat at least every 3 months, so approximately 4 times a year.

While treating your cat for tapeworm, it’s also useful to address the cause otherwise you risk reinfestation. If your cat has fleas, there are a number of effective flea treatments available that kill not only the adult fleas, but also the eggs and larvae in your home, which ends the flea life cycle.

If your cat regularly hunts and eats mice then consider measures such as fitting them with a belled collar. This can alert mice and birds that your cat is coming and can reduce predation. You should ensure that it’s correctly fitted and has a mechanism to allow your cat to free itself if the collar gets caught on anything.

How does Droncit Spot-On work?

The active ingredient in Droncit Spot-On is praziquantel, which works to kill adult tapeworms. When the substance is metabolised by the liver, it works its way to the tapeworms and stops them from feeding off the food being digested by your pet.

Once the tapeworms have been stopped from feeding, they then starve and die. Tapeworms that have been killed are then passed through your pet’s stool, although they may have been destroyed by the digestive system and therefore you might not notice them.

The treatment gets to work quickly and begins killing tapeworms around 2-6 hours after administering the medicine.

Instructions for Droncit Spot-On

When you receive the medication, it’s important to read and understand the dosage instructions. The strength and dose of the medicine will depend on the size of your pet.

The solution should be applied directly to the skin on the back of the neck. Open the pipette and part your pet’s fur, before squeezing the solution onto their skin. It should be done on the back of the neck so that your cat can't lick the solution off. If you have multiple pets, ensure they don’t lick or groom each other until the solution has dried.

The dosage is one pipette per 2.5kg of body weight. This medicine should not be used on cats weighing less than 1kg.
