What is Zitac?
Zitac is a medicine for dogs suffering from chronic or longer-lasting gastritis and is used to prevent vomiting associated with this condition. It comes in the form of tablets and is available in a variety of doses. Zitac should be taken at an appropriate dosage and as directed by your vet.
After this treatment, dog owners may notice a range of improvements, most notably a reduction in vomiting. If your dog is hypersensitive to Cimetidine – Zitac’s active ingredient – then this product should be avoided and an alternative should be sought.
Zitac is used for the symptomatic treatment of gastritis. If vomiting persists beyond 15 days or if there is a poor response, then consult your veterinary surgeon, who can perform further tests that may diagnose the underlying problem.
Adverse reactions to Zitac are very rare, some swelling of the mammary glands in females dogs has been observed, however, this resolves spontaneously. If you do observe any, though, please inform your vet as soon as possible. Consult your vet if you think your pet may be pregnant as the medication has not been investigated in pregnant or nursing dogs.
This product is only suitable for the treatment of animals and should never be used on humans. It should be kept away from children out of sight and out of reach. In the event of this product being ingested by humans, then medical attention should be sought immediately.
How does Zitac work?
Zitac works by inhibiting the production of stomach acids which cause persistent inflammation of the stomach wall and vomiting. It is taken orally, usually in the form of pills.
Put more simply, Zitac reduces the secretion of acids which cause the stomach wall inflammation and vomiting which are common symptoms of chronic or longer-lasting gastroenteritis.
What are the benefits of Zitac?
Vomiting can be debilitating, and Zitac may play an important role in suppressing it in gastroenteritis patients. This may allow a dog to live more normally without the symptoms of gastroenteritis.
Is Zitac Available Over The Counter?
Zitac is not available over the counter and requires a veterinary prescription.
Dosages will vary depending on the size of the dog receiving the prescription.
