What are Thiafeline Tablets?

Thiafeline Tablets are used for the long-term treatment of hyperthyroidism in cats. The active ingredient is thiamazole and it comes in tablet form for oral use.

Hyperthyroidism is a common disease in cats, and mostly afflicts felines from middle-age to older. Another name for the disease is thyrotoxicosis and it is caused by an increase in the production of thyroid hormones (sometimes known as T4) from an enlarged thyroid gland in the neck of the cat.

Feline hyperthyroidism occurs in around ten percent of cats aged over ten.

Symptoms include an increase in appetite, weight loss despite eating more food, an increase in activity, an increased thirst and a rapid heart rate.

How do Thiafeline Tablets work?

Thiafeline Tablets contain thiamazole which acts by obstructing the biosynthesis of the thyroid hormone.

The medication can in addition be used to stabilise hyperthyroidism in cats before a surgical thyroidectomy operation.

As soon as you receive and open the medication, it is important that you read and understand the instructions inside, especially when it comes to the recommended dose.

The tablets are for oral use only. Make sure you do not attempt to administer the treatment in any other way. It is vital that you use the recommended dosage. This recommendation should come from your vet.
