What are Therios® Tablets?

Therios® Tablets are a bactericidal antibiotic for treating urinary tract infections and bacterial skin infections in dogs and cats. They can also be used to treat skin wounds and abscesses in cats.

Therios Chewable Tablets for Cats come in one strength, 75mg. Therios Palatable Tablets for Dogs come in two strengths, 300mg and 750mg. 

The dosage for cats of Therios Chewable Tablets for Cats is 15mg of cefalexin per kilogram of body weight twice a day, equivalent to one tablet for 5kg body weight. For wounds and abscesses they should be given for five days, for urinary tract infections for ten to 14 days and at least 14 days if treating pyoderma. The treatment should be continued for ten days once the lesions have disappeared. Please follow dosing advice from your veterinarian.

The dosage for dogs of Therios Palatable Tablets for Dogs is 15mg of cefalexin per kg of body weight twice a day (which is equivalent to 30mg per kg of body weight each day) for 14 days if treating urinary tract infection, at the minimum 15 days if the condition superficial infectious dermatitis is being treated and at the least 28 days in those examples of infectious dermatitis. Please follow dosing advice from your veterinarian.

Therios tablets are readily accepted by dogs and may be crushed or added to a small quantity of food just before feeding. 

How do Therios® Tablets work?

The active ingredient is cefalexin, or cephalexin, a bactericidal antibiotic for oral use. It acts by hindering the nucleopeptide synthesis of the bacterial wall and so destroying the bacteria.  

How to use Therios® Tablets

It is important that as soon as you receive and open the medication, you read and understand the instructions, especially on the recommended dose. The tablets are for oral use only with food and should not be administered in any other manner. Contact your vet to get full and detailed instructions on dosage.  

How to order Therios® Tablets 

Therios® Tablets are a POM-V medication. You will need a valid written prescription from your veterinary surgeon to order this from us.
