Description

What is Program Oral Suspension for Cats?

Program Oral Suspension for Cats is an effective medication used to treat and control flea infestations. While it doesn’t kill adult fleas, it works to effectively eliminate eggs and larvae to break the life cycle and prevent infestation.

This medicine provides long-lasting protection against fleas that lasts all month. Using Program Oral Suspension for Cats on a monthly basis ensures year-round protection for your cat and your home.

If your cat is currently infested with fleas then you will need to use a treatment that kills adult fleas, rather than prevents fleas in their immature stages from developing. If you use Program Oral Suspension for Cats at this stage, then you may not experience noticeable results until several weeks after dosing. Other treatments that focus on killing fleas, rather than preventing them may be more useful in this circumstance.

You may also wish to use this in combination with a household spray to ensure that fleas, eggs and larvae are eliminated from your house and its soft furnishings.

The medicine has been developed specifically for cats. If you are looking to treat an infestation in a dog then be sure to request an appropriate alternative instead.

How does Program Oral Suspension for Cats work?

The active ingredient in Program Oral Suspension for Cats is lufenuron, which works to prevent immature fleas from developing. It prevents a larval flea from developing a hard outer shell, so the parasite dies due to its inner organs being exposed.

Because of the way in which the active ingredient works, this medicine doesn’t work to kill adult fleas. Preventing development is only effective on immature fleas, and an effective alternative is recommended for dealing with infestations of adult fleas.

Instructions for Program Oral Suspension for Cats

When you receive the medication, it’s important to read and understand the dosage instructions. The strength and dose of the medication will depend on the size of your cat.

Always use medications as directed by your vet. Shake the ampoule before use and add the required dose of suspension to your cat’s food (approximately half of what you’d normally give them). Once the food containing the dose of medicine has been eaten, you can give your cat the rest of the food.

Alternatively, you can administer the medicine by squeezing the suspension directly onto the cat’s tongue after feeding, towards the back.

Dosage guides are dependent on body weight. Cats and kittens weighing up to 4.5 kg should be treated with the contents of 1 ampoule (containing 1.9g) and cats weighing over 4.5 kg should be treated with the contents of 1 ampoule (containing 3.8g).

You should treat your cat with Program Oral Suspension for Cats once-a-month to ensure long-lasting, ongoing protection against flea infestations. If your cat does become infested with fleas, then consider a treatment that kills adult fleas rather than one that prevents the life cycle from continuing.
