What is Prinovox Spot-On Solution

Prinovox Spot-On Solution is for the treatment of flea and mite infestations in cats, ferrets and dogs of all sizes. The active ingredients are imidacloprid and moxidectin and the solution comes with a pipette for accurate measuring and is applied directly on to the animal’s skin at the base of the skull. 

Prinovox Spot On Solution for Cat/Ferret comes is a 40mg tube and is to treats cats at risk or suffering from mixed parasitic infections including fleas, ear mites, mange, lungworm, heartworm and the treatment of infections with gastrointestinal nematodes. 

In ferrets, the treatment is suitable for the treatment of flea infestation and to prevent heartworm disease.

The recommended doses for cats as a minimum are 10 mg per kg of body weight imidacloprid and 1.0 mg/kg body weight of moxidectin. This is equivalent to 0.1 ml of the product per kg bodyweight. For ferrets, one 0.4 ml pipette of the medicine should be administered. 

The dose lasts for a variety of time periods, depending on what it is being used for. Refer to your vet for more detailed information on dosage periods. 

Prinovox Spot On Solution for Dogs is to treat dogs at risk or suffering from mixed parasitic infections, biting lice, flea infestations, ear mites, heartwork, eye worms and gastrointestinal nematodes. 

The minimum doses recommended are 10 mg per kg body weight imidacloprid and 2.5 mg/kg body weight of moxidectin, equivalent to 0.1 ml of this product per kg body weight.

For dogs weighing less than 4kg, the dose is 0.4ml of Prinovox Spot On Solution for Small Dogs

For dogs weighing between 4kg and 10kg, the dose is 1ml of Prinovox Spot On Solution for Medium Dogs

For dogs weighing between 10kg and 25kg, the dose is 2.5ml of Prinovox Spot On Solution for Large Dogs

For dogs weighing between 25kg and 40kg, the dose is 4ml of Prinovox Spot On Solution for Extra Large Dogs

For dogs weighing more than 40kg, use a combination of pipettes as appropriate.

How does Prinovox Spot-On Solution work?

The active ingredients are imidacloprid and moxidecti. Imidacloprid works on fleas and other parasites by disrupting the nerve signals to paralyse and subsequently kill them. This medicine can be far more effective than conventional flea treatments as it kills the fleas on contact, rather than needing for the parasite to first feed on your pet to start working. 

Moxidecti treats ectoparasites and infestations such as ticks and fleas. It binds to the parasite's GABA-A and glutamate-gated chloride ion channels which are vital for its function.
