What is Gastrogard 370mg/ml Oral Paste?

Gastrogard 370mg/ml Oral Paste is an antacid for the prevention and treatment of gastric ulcers which may develop in horses.

Just like people, horses can suffer stress. Activities such as performance training to a high level and competing in races and at shows has the potential to cause stress to a horse. This may lead to them developing gastric ulcers. 

Factors such as how the horses are managed, fed and the practices in husbandry may have a bearing too.  

To prevent the horses developing gastric ulcers, those looking after them could think about changing their husbandry practices to reduce stress. This can be achieved by a no-fast regime, increasing their consumption of roughage and allowing access to good grazing. 

How does Gastrogard 370mg/ml Oral Paste work? 

The active ingredient is Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor.  

For the treatment of ulcers, one administration per day is recommended for 28 consecutive days. A lower dose daily is suitable for the prevention of the condition. 

GastroGard is suitable in many horse breeds and for foals older than 4 weeks and weighing more than 70kg and breeding stallions.
