Drontal Tasty Bone Tablets is an effective worming treatment used in dogs. It works to eliminate intestinal worms such as roundworm, hookworm, whipworm and tapeworm. These infestations can cause symptoms such as diarrhoea, weight loss and lack of appetite. There are a number of things that can increase your dog’s risk of contracting worms such as flea infestations or eating undercooked/raw meat.

To quickly and effectively treat roundworms and tapeworms, Drontal Tasty Bone Tablets are designed to be taken orally and only require a single dose. It’s recommended to deworm your dog at least every 3 months, so approximately 4 times a year.

While treating your dog for tapeworm, it’s also helpful to address the cause otherwise you risk reinfestation. Dogs can get tapeworms from fleas. If your dog has fleas, there are a number of effective flea treatments available that kill not only the adult fleas, but also the eggs and larvae in your home, which ends the flea life cycle.

Make sure that when feeding your dog, their food is properly cooked to reduce the risk of eating contaminated meat, and always clear up after your dog as quickly as possible when you’re out. Dog faeces infected with roundworms can be a public health hazard. Toxocara canis a worm that can be found in dogs that are not wormed regularly is a zoonotic disease; a disease that can affect both animals and people. 

How do Drontal Tasty Bone Tablets work?

The active ingredients in Drontal Tasty Bone Tablets are praziquantel, febantel and pyrantel, which work on a wide variety of worms. The medicine is absorbed into the bloodstream where it travels through the blood and to the liver. When the substance is metabolised by the liver, it finds the worms and stops them from feeding off the food being digested by your pet. 

Once the worms have been stopped from feeding, they then starve and consequently die. Worms that have been killed are then passed through your pet’s stool, although they may have been destroyed by the digestive system and therefore you might not notice them.

The treatment gets to work quickly and begins killing worms around 2-6 hours after administering the medicine.

How do I use Drontal Tasty Bone Tablets?

When you receive the medication, it’s important to read and understand the dosage instructions. The strength and dose of the medicine will depend on the size of your pet.

The tablets should be taken orally as a single dose. If necessary, this can be hidden in food. The dosage guide is one tablet per 10kg of body weight. For dogs weighing less than 6kg, only half a tablet should be given. The tablets can easily be split so that half tablets can be given, based on your dog’s body weight. 

Dogs weighing more than 17kg should opt for the Drontal Tasty Bone XL Tablets. The dosage for these is half a tablet for dogs weighing between 17.5kg and 35kg and then one tablet per 35kg of bodyweight. After this, add one further tablet for every additional 10kg of body weight.
