Description

What is Dronspot Spot-On for Cats?

Dronspot Spot-On for Cats is an effective worming treatment used in cats. It works to eliminate intestinal worms such as roundworm, hookworm and tapeworm. There are a number of things that can increase your cat’s risk of contracting worms such as flea infestations or hunting (and eating) mice.

To quickly and effectively treat tapeworms, Dronspot Spot-On for Cats comes in a convenient pipette and is supplied in packs of 2 and 20. It’s recommended to deworm your cat every 3 months, so approximately 4 times a year.

While treating your cat for tapeworm, it’s also helpful to address the cause otherwise you risk reinfestation. Cats can get infected with tapeworms from fleas. If your cat has fleas, there are a number of effective flea treatments available that kill not only the adult fleas, but also the eggs and larvae in your home, which ends the flea life cycle.

If your cat regularly hunts and eats mice then consider measures such as fitting them with a collar with a bell. This can alert birds and mice that your cat is coming and can reduce predation. You should make sure that it’s correctly fitted and has a mechanism to allow your cat to free itself if the collar should get caught on anything.

How does Dronspot Spot-On for Cats work?

The active ingredient in Dronspot Spot-On for Cats is praziquantel, which works a wide variety of worms. The medicine is absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin, where it travels through the blood and to the liver. When the substance is metabolised by the liver, it works its way to the worms and stops them from feeding off the food being digested by the host (your cat).

Once the worms have been stopped from feeding, they then starve and consequently die. Worms that have been killed are then passed through your pet’s stool, although they may have been destroyed by the digestive system and therefore you might not notice them.

The treatment gets to work quickly and begins killing worms around 2-6 hours after administering the medicine.

Instructions for Dronspot Spot-On for Cats

When you receive the medication, it’s important to read and understand the dosage instructions. The strength and dose of the medicine will depend on the size of your pet.

The solution should be applied directly to the skin on the back of the neck. Open the pipette and part your cat’s fur, before squeezing the solution onto their skin. It has to be done on the back of the neck so that your cat can't lick the solution off. If you have multiple pets, ensure they don’t lick or groom each other until the solution has dried.

The dosage depends on body weight so you should weigh your cat accurately.
