What are Capstar Tablets?
Capstar Tablets are an effective flea treatment suitable for both cats and dogs. Capstar Tablets get to work to begin killing fleas in only 15 minutes and within 24 hours aims to have killed all adult fleas on your pet.
It’s recommended to treat your home at the same time as treating your pet, as Capstar Tablets do not kill eggs and larvae that may have already been spread. Try an approved household flea spray to ensure you eliminate the infestation fully. Capstar Tablets also don’t work on ticks. For ticks or other parasites, you might need an additional or alternative treatment.
The strength and dose of the tablets you require will depend on the size of your animal, with different options for small dogs and cats, and large dogs. The 11mg option is suitable for cats and dogs weighing between 0.5kg and 11kg, while the 57mg option is suitable for dogs weighing over 11kg.
How does Capstar Tablets work?
The active ingredient in Capstar Tablets is Nitenpyram, which remains active in the blood of your pet. Once the fleas bite and feed from your animal, the Nitenpyram attacks the parasite’s nervous system and causes paralysis and then death.
The active ingredient works quickly to begin killing fleas within 15 minutes and is a highly effective parasiticide. Within six hours, up to 90 percent of adult fleas will be dead, with the remaining ones usually killed within 24 hours. However it’s important to note that Capstar Tablets don’t kill eggs and larvae so a dual treatment for your pet and home is recommended.

Always use medications as directed by your vet. Capstar Tablets are safe to be used every day until you get rid of all the fleas, as nitenpyram doesn’t stay in your pet’s body for too long.
